Bobcat Fire Survivors

There is limited time to recover for the Bobcat Fire caused by SoCal Edison.

The Bobcat Fire in Los Angeles County started on September 6, 2020 at around 12:21 pm in the Angeles National Forest near the west fork of San Gabriel Canyon at Cogswell Dam.

The fire initially spread southward, which prompted evacuation orders for residents in Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Bradbury, and Duarte, along with evacuation warnings for those in Arcadia, Pasadena, and Altadena. The fire then grew westward and threatened the Mount Wilson Observatory by September 15. By September 17, the fire rapidly expanded to the north into Pleasant View Ridge Wilderness, leading to mandatory evacuations in Antelope Valley as the fire approached Juniper Hills.

The fire damaged 27 homes, destroyed 27 homes, and burned 115,796 acres in and around the San Gabriel Mountains. The fire was contained on December 18, 2020.

On September 15, 2020, nine days after the Bobcat Fire started, Southern California Edison (SCE) filed a safety report with the California Public Utilities Commission (CUPC) reporting an incident occurred on September 6, 2020 on the “Jarvis 12kV circuit out of the Dalton substation” and that the “Mt. Wilson East camera captured the initial stages of the fire.”
